Colin Taylor
It would be easy to define much of my work as landscape painting. But in so doing, I should perhaps make the distinction that it is not just the landscape we see that interests me, but the landscape we experience. This became obvious to me from the mid 1990’s, when after starting an outdoor pursuits company, I began to travel and climb more widely to climb mountains in South America, Africa and Asia.I came to realise that climbing was as much of a psychological challenge as it was a physical one – so through my work i began to explore a visual language that is not an optical expression, but an emotional one. It is probably more about what I can’t explain, but know to be there and is not restricted by ‘proven fact’ or physicality.
